Once upon a time, a very poor woodcutter lived in a tiny cottage in the forest…

I can’t help but send a very quick post out about this wonderful photo one of our independents tweeted today, namely Bumper Bookshop in Eastbourne, and their divine Christmas window display.

From what I can gather going around the many shops as I have done already, this Yuletide is very much the season of the return of the gingerbread man. I have seen tributes, figurines and decorations galore this Christmas, all depicting the humble wee smiley gingerbread man and to a slightly lesser extent, the house of biscuits from Hansel & Gretel in ornament form with ribbons through to hang on one’s tree. I like this, something a bit different. And let’s face it, ginger is one of the spices of Christmas, we all love biscuits and cake, so I heartily endorse the return of the gingerbread man!

As this photo courtesy of Bumper Bookshop in Eastbourne, East Sussex shows, I don’t appear to be the only one welcoming them back this Christmas! Spread the festive spirit this season with a liberal dusting of icing sugar.
